Style Spotlight: BTS

By: Lisa Heverly, 2017-18 Editor-in-Chief

If you don’t know BTS, you aren’t following music and trends carefully. BTS (aka Bangtan Boys) is a 7-member South Korean group whose music and performances are taking over the world today. Even as I write, the news of their second nomination as Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards surfaces, and their newest album drop date is confirmed to be May 18th. There is no resting for Bangtan or their fans.

BTS rose to fame through their dancing, song writing, and entertaining talent, but their fashion sense is not to be ignored. Each member has a distinct and captivating style.

While “good style” is subjective, there are various ways to achieve it: you can pick clothing according to your hair color, choose to flatter your body type, or simply wear something to grab attention whether its conventional or not. I think BTS does all 3 and more.

Feel free to leave styling comments below!

RM /Namjoon

His favorite brands these days are VISVIM and WTAPS. He said he’s into workwear, which includes beanies, utility jackets, and sturdy leather “work” boots. I’d say his style is Americana and almost always earth-toned.

Jin

Most of his outfits consist of one oversized pastel top and skinny denim bottoms. Although his style is simple, he makes sure to wear clothes that flatter his figure well.

J-Hope /Hoseok

Hoseok is the king of streetwear in BTS and his outfits are brightly colored. He’s got that Supreme pack and Balenciaga S game going strong.

Suga /Yoongi

Yoongi is a dedicated rapper and producer who values his time alone. His style reflects that, and he shows as little face as possible when out in public. Mastermind and flannel shirts are common in his wardrobe.

V /Taehyung

A Gucci model waiting to be endorsed. Taehyung’s a real artist - with interests in photography, film, and Gustav Klimt - and it shows in his unique style.  His specialty are berets, Gucci ties, and wearing glasses on the back of his head.

Jimin

Jimin can easily switch from rich boy to play boy to boy-next-door. Though his style (and hair color) is ever changing, two essential items that remain constant are large, black, square sunglasses and silver hardware.

Jungkook

He is the youngest of the group at only 20 years old. His style is mostly… all black. However, he adds bulky backpacks and round glasses to accessorize.

Keep in mind that while most of us cannot afford brands like BTS, it is the way you style, mix and match that make or break an outfit. Play with colors, textures, lengths, and qualities to get the most out of your closet and have fun!
